Katja Herbers was born in Germany to Vera Beths, a violinist as well as Werner Herbers, an oboist. As a child, she traveled to America as did her mother in the L'Archibudelli chamber group toured. Both of her parents got married again, with her mother marrying cellist Anner bylsma. They introduced her into the theater world.
